This project involved a major remodel of the kitchen, family room, dining room area of a beautiful East Hyde Park home built in the 1920s.  The original floorplan included a very small, cramped kitchen (typical of the era)accessed through a 2'8" door from the dining room.  The dining room had been reduced in size during a previous remodel which added two coat closets to the east wall, and a large window in the west wall of the kitchen had been lost as the result of a family room addition to the rear of the house in the 1970s.

That family room was isolated from the rest of the house and only accessible by passing through the kitchen and the mudroom.  The homeowners asked us to re envision the spaces in such a way that the dining room, kitchen and living room could be pulled together and opened up to each other creating a grand space for entertaining large gatherings -  all without losing the charm and style of the original 1920s architecture.   ever, the monolithic walls are countered by delicate steel columns, frameless windows, and flowing water.
